More than Skin Deep – Healthcare Professionals
The memory of the burn event itself, the early days of pain, and the experience of being in hospital and recovery can have lasting impact on the child, their parents, and their family and friends.
Evidence suggests that a holistic approach to burn care, including early and sustained attention to psychosocial needs, can help positive adaptation and recovery from trauma.
This can assist burn survivors to adapt to their injuries and new appearance preventing potential problems such as social withdrawal, problems with school or work, and not feeling able to live a full and happy life.
