Strong governance ensures the Fiona Wood Foundation operates with integrity, transparency, and accountability, enabling us to focus on innovation and improving burn care.

Strong governance is at the heart of the Fiona Wood Foundation, providing the framework and oversight needed to ensure responsible decision-making, financial integrity, and ethical practice. It safeguards the Foundation’s mission, builds trust with patients, donors, and partners, and ensures that all research, programs, and initiatives are carried out safely, effectively, and with measurable impact.

By maintaining rigorous governance, the Foundation can focus on innovation and improving burn care, confident that its operations are transparent, accountable, and aligned with its values.

Finance

The Finance Sub-Committee safeguards the Foundation’s financial integrity and budgets, policies, performance, accountability by overseeing and external audits.

Compliance

Guided by the board, the Foundation operates in full compliance with all financial, regulatory, and privacy requirements, including those of the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) and the Fundraising Institute of Australia. It undergoes an annual independent audit and upholds the highest standards of governance, transparency, and ethical practice.

United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

The Foundation strategically aligns its vision with key SDGs, positioning itself at the forefront of global burn and scarring research while advancing sustainable development and equitable healthcare practices.

Research

The Foundation is committed to world-leading research and discovery in burns and scarring, underpinned by the highest standards of ethical and responsible conduct. All research funded by the Foundation complies with relevant federal and state legislative requirements and is subject to review by institutional ethics and governance committees. In addition, projects adhere to the Australian Code for the Care and Use of Animals for Scientific Purposes and/or the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research (2023), ensuring integrity across all aspects of the Foundation's work.
